Richard P. Smiraglia is Professor at the
Palmer School of Library and Information Science, Long Island University
in Brookville New York. He teaches courses in knowledge organization
and research methods. Before coming to the Palmer School he was
assistant professor at Columbia University's School of Library
Service, and before that Music Catalog Librarian at the University
of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. He has served as editor of Library
Resources & Technical Services, and is editor-designate of
the ISKO journal Knowledge Organization. His most recent monograph
is The Nature of a Work (Scarecrow Press, 2001), in which he offers
the first book-length treatment of the topic of works and their
roles in knowledge organization. Just published is Works as Entities
for Information Retrieval (Haworth Press, 2002), in which an international
panel of authors describe the many facets of the work entity. |
